Reasons Why Is It So Hot This Year (2024)

Undoubtedly, 2024 will be the hottest year in history. There are some major reasons behind this. The temperature is rising daily, leading to people’s deaths. But why is it so hot this year? Is there any specific reason? The answer is yes; there are some major reasons behind this. The atmospheric temperature is breaking all the limits by crossing 52 degrees Celsius. It is noticed in India’s Mangeshpura, which is in Delhi.

By the beginning of March, the temperature had reached 42 degrees. Major heatstrokes are killing people around the world. The “Hottest year in history” record is being broken year by year with a high range. It is important to know why and take action against it.

Why Is It So Hot This Year?

Already, 80 people have died in India in 2024. It is becoming a huge problem day by day. It is the first time in history that summer has come so early. We all remember that 2022 was so hot, breaking the record of 122 years by becoming the “Hottest Summer ever.” But then came 2023’s summer. Scientists said that it was the hottest summer in the last 2000 years.

According to scientists, 2024 will beat the previous year’s summer. January 2024 has become the “Hottest January Ever.” Similarly, February became the “Hottest February ever recorded,” and so on. This major summer has caused fires in India’s Nanital, Odissa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand. However, this is not the situation in India; the effect can be seen in different countries.

Drought and flooding have been noticed this summer. The drought is happening in Southern African countries. According to reports, the draught condition was last seen in 1947. The question remains: “Why is it so hot this year?”

Moreover, the main reasons behind it are EL Nino, heat waves, solar activity, forest fires and more. They are causing extreme heat, which is increasing year by year. Due to this heat, the death rate increases every year. If there is no improvement in the condition, the upcoming years can beat this summer.

Reasons Behind 2024’s Extreme Summer

There are many severe reasons behind this extreme heat. According to https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/climate-change-heat-and-health, approximately 4,89,000 people died from heatstroke from 2000 to 2019. It is not wrong to assume that more than 500,000 people have died in the last 24 years. Let’s see the reasons behind this deadly summer:

1. EL-Nino

El Nino, commonly known as the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO), is a natural cycle that occurs every 5 to 7 years. However, climate change is becoming more extreme every year. This is the second most important reason behind this unbearable summer.

The condition of EL Nino occurs in the Pacific Ocean, one of the biggest oceans connected with American and Asian lines. In the Pacific Ocean, the wind moves from east to west, and these winds are known as trade winds. Because of the earth’s rotation, they flow from the direction of America to Asia. However, due to the Coriolis effect, the wind flows in opposite directions.

These drastic changes are reasons “Why is it so hot this year?” The EL-Nino was last seen in 2018-19, which lasted until 2020, and it caused a sudden wildfire in the Australian forest. Similarly, since 2023, the EL Nino has been ongoing in American-Asia regions. The strongest EL-Nino effect was measured in 2015-16.

2. Human- Climate Change

Human-caused climate change is a change that humans artificially create. It includes pollution, deforestation, and the use of glassed mirrors in buildings and asphalt for roads. Moreover, it increases El Nino’s impact in the regions. India is following the Western style. The countries use glasses for building design. It forms two suns due to mirror reflection. The artificial changes can be deadly. It increases the chances of high humidity.

How To Reduce The Chances of Extreme Heat This Year?

The problem comes with a solution. So, it is important to find a solution to this extreme heat instead of blaming the environment for why is it so hot this year.

1. Grow Mango Trees

Mango has many benefits, especially during this extreme summer. It absorbs 81 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) and produces 271 oxygen. If you turn on five ACs for 1000 hours, it equals the carbon emission of the mango tree. It is important to grow mango trees as they work as Air conditioners (AC) but with no side effects.

2. Grow Plants on the Terrace

Singapore’s situation is similar to that of India. Instead of temporary solutions, they use permanent ones. In Singapore’s buildings, plants are grown on terraces and balconies. This is helpful as it offers aesthetics and less heat in summer. Notably, the plantation areas have less heat than other areas. So, adapting goods from neighbouring countries is helpful.

3. Paint Your Home White

Instead of painting your home black or dark, paint it white. A white building does not absorb heat. It reflects the sun’s rays away instead of absorbing them. The government also says to paint the home white. It also reduces the temperature of the building if it is white. So, paint your home white and save it from severe heat.

Final Words

In this extreme summer, everyone might wonder why is it so hot this year. Right? It is because of the El Nino effect. It occurs every 5-7 years, but in recent years, it has fluctuated. El Nino has killed people due to extreme heatstrokes. It is also important to note that it increases not only temperature but humidity as well.
