The Perfect Couple Netflix Show Review: Murder Mystery That’s Not So Perfect

The Perfect Couple is a web series on Netflix that has recently attracted audiences across the globe. It is a murder mystery that is set against the backdrop of a luxurious Nantucket wedding. The web series is an adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name written by Elin Hilderbrand. It presents the guilty pleasures that keep you on the edge of your seat from the start to the end.

An Overview of Perfect Couple Netflix Series:

The series depicts the life of the zoologist Amelia Sacks, who is about to marry into the affluent and prestigious Winbury clan. This novella opens on a cheerful note, a rehearsal dinner of Amelia and Benji; however, the next morning, when a dead body is found on the Winbury estate, it becomes a murder mystery. As things are uncovered, more and more about the Winburys is revealed in the most ridiculous manner.

However, if one examines the show, one sees that its primary focus is on overblown characters and melodramatic clichés. The inhabitants of the Winbury are a cartoon family except for the fact that they have the worst and the most numerous secrets, such as the ocean. Greer, the head of the family, is a rather bitter writer who manipulatively dominates her subordinates. Her husband is an ex-athlete named Tag, who would rather golf and smoke marijuana than run his family’s business that she established. Benji, Tom, and Will, their sons, are also characters who have personal sins to commit and things to cover.

Detective Nikki Henry starts the investigation. He is a simple police officer who is very focused on her investigations. As she further investigates the case, she finds that all the members of the Winbury family are suspects who can or could murder.

Best Parts of The Perfect Couple:

It is a worth binge-watching show, full of fun and entertainment. being a murder mystery it gives bangs of plot twists and turns from time to time to keep you guessing until the end. This lighthearted murder mystery is for everyone who doesn’t like too serious but likes suspense plots.

Here are some of the reasons why I enjoyed The Perfect Couple:

  • The characters are over-the-top and entertaining.
  • The plot is full of twists and turns.
  • The scenery is stunning.
  • The cast is excellent.
  • It is a fun and entertaining show that is perfect for binge-watching.

However, there are a few things that I did not like about the show:

  • The characters can be a bit one-dimensional.
  • The pacing can be a bit slow at times.

Characterization in “The Perfect Couple”

Netflix’s “The Perfect Couple” is an entertaining mystery film that has been the source of much entertainment and appreciation in characterization. This feature of the show is that each of the members of the wealthy Winbury family has his/her own characterisms. Which make him/her interesting and add some tension to the show.

The Winbury Matriarch: Nicole Kidman gives a good account of herself, acting as Greer Winbury. The unfeeling mother who schemes to lock her family out of her house. Greer is very cold and unemotional, and her character’s witty remarks to the main characters make her a very good villain. However, her dynamic with her family members adds another dimension to the show.

The Younger Generation: The young generation of people of the Winbury family is also equally appealing. Stand-up and affable fiancé Benji is a foil to the tyrannical mother. His elder brother, Tom, is a self-centred brat who does not understand the value of anything, and the last of the brothers, Will, is suffering from the consequences of their past life.

The Supporting Cast: Subordinate characters like Tag Winbury by Liev Schreiber, Abby, played by Dakota Fanning, and Detective Nikki Henry by Donna Lynne Champlin, also play an important role in the aspect of exaggeration in the show. The characters that evolve in the plot are all unique and fully developed. Each has a perspective of his/ her own.

Relative to the analysis of the features of “The Perfect Couple”, one of the apparent positives is the author’s capacity to develop such characters as amusing and credible. Still, the audience can sympathise with the Winbury family members and explain their actions, though they are, in a way, flawed characters.

The Verdict:

All in all, I can say that I enjoyed watching The Perfect Couple as it was a fun and entertaining show. It is easy for me to suggest that fans of murder mysteries should watch it, I definitely would.

The Perfect Couple is a cheesy movie that one can watch with complete delight. It is colourful, silly, and perfect for a lazy Sunday or a heavy dose of television watching on weeknights. If you’re interested in a murder mystery that is slightly different from the common one, then you should try it out.
