Get Everything To Know About Hoop House

The hoop house is made of plastic to protect our off-seasoned plants from rain, wind, and high temperatures. It is cheap and affordable, designed for small farmers to grow plant varieties under protection. In agriculture, the hoop house plays an important role. The house involves transparent plastic to provide adequate sunlight to the plants.

What is a Hoop House?

A hoop house or high tunnel is covered with plastic and protects the plants. In agriculture, this house extends the growing season of plants. Moreover, it protects plants from rain, high wind and temperature. It also improves the quality and quantity of crop yields. They are made up of curved metal pipes (PVC or galvanised pipes) and transparent plastic sheets.

Benefits of Hoop House

There are many features of this House, such as:

1. It extends the growing seasons, as the transparent plastic cover maintains the temperature, similar to a hoop greenhouse. Moreover, it creates a micro-climate which is opposite to the outer environment.

2. It controls their climatic temperature and provides the needed temperature to the plant. Other than temperature, it also maintains the moisture and humidity of the plants. The house is mainly beneficial for sensitive plants.

3. It acts as a pest and disease controller. The house is covered with plastic sheets that separate pests and plants. This reduces the need for chemical pesticides and helps the plant grow organically. Moreover, weed control is not required.

4. The house increases the quality and quantity of yield. It mainly benefits small farmers who can grow high-yield plants in a small area. These houses control the environment and promote healthier crops and the environment.

Types of Hoop House

There are majorly three types of hoop houses such as:

1. Naturally Ventilated Hoop House

The natural ventilated house has a natural ventilation system. It maintains the temperature and humidity naturally, reducing the cost of fans and cooling systems. Moreover, it is a cost-effective option. It is set up so that air flows well and gets proper sunlight.

Moreover, this type of ventilation mainly benefits small farmers. They can grow crops in high areas and use natural ventilation. It is beneficial because it is cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and sustainable.

2. Partial Climate Controlled hoop house

A partial climate-controlled house allows for an extended growing season and controls pests and diseases. It protects crops and plants from climatic concerns and maintains a more natural environment. However, it reduces water usage by maintaining the plant’s requirements.

Moreover, it is beneficial as it improves yield quality and helps maintain moisture. It is not expensive, so small farmers and businesses can use it.

3. Fully Climate Controlled hoop house

Farmers can grow off-season plants and plants that do not grow in their area in a fully climate-controlled house. However, it requires maintenance and can be expensive. But, it provides a good return. Growing native plants is easy to manage, but the plants originating in other areas can be highly expensive.

How to Build a Hoop House?

Building a hoop house requires materials, which is relatively easy. Let’s see the process:

Material Requirement

1. PVC Pipe

2. Rebar

3. Plastic sheet

4. Wooden sticks

5. Zip ties

6. Nail or screw

7. Metal banding

8. Door hinges

Procedure

1. Make the design and layout of the hoop house on paper.

2. Collect all the wooden sticks and make a house frame.

3. Pour the rebar into the ground, between two side frames, and some particular distance.

4. Slide the PVC pipes over the rebar to design the hoop.

5. Hold the PVC pipes and attach them to the wooden frame with the help of the metal band and screw it.

6. Design the gate with a wooden frame.

7. add a PVC pipe straight in between other curved PVC pipes for PVC hoop house plans.

8. It will hold the curved pipes and maintain stability.

9. Attach the zip ties.

10. Cover the house with a plastic sheet and pack it well.

11. Now add door hinges to hold the gate of the house.

12. Add ventilation to maintain the humidity, moisture and cooling.

Final Words

The hoop house properly maintains the growth of plants and crops. It protects the crops from heavy rainfall, wind storms, and high sunlight. Farmers can also grow off-season and foreign crops. Natural ventilation does not require air conditioning machines, but it is important for plant growth. Building a hoop house is easy, but it requires some material.
